About Us: Background
We began web design in early 1994, shortly after the whole thing began. Web pages, then, were aligned on the left, had a plain grey background and had little in the way of graphics or movement. They were quite static.
There were only a few html editors and they really didn't offer much, were not adaptable to change nor was there much in the way of information on how to design so it was essentially a learning process in the truest sense. Most coding was done with notepad by hand. There were very few people designing and anything one knew was kept to one's self. So it was really a difficult process. Netscape was the only decent browser and fit on one 31/2" floppy disk(1.44 mb), the latest version (8) is 18.2 mb.
Windows 3 was the flavour of the month.
It was a nice big change from having to remember all that DOS code!
Later we taught HTML and basic web design at the Open Learning Agency (part of PBS).
We do not pretend to know all there is to know about design as it is constantly changing and  improving in its scope. We are still learning.
